Mumbai Indians Behind the Scenes: Parents Reve…

Hardik Pandya and his brother Krunal form very important parts of the Mumbai Indians juggernaut that is led by Rohit Sharma. Both the brothers have performed brilliantly over the years in the IPL for the Mumbai franchise, but the journey to the top has not been an easy one, but has definitely been one about family support.

The Pandyas hail from Gujarat and theirs has been a journey of struggle right from the start as they faced a lot of opposition when the decision to induct them into the game of cricket was taken.

Himanshu Pandya, the proud father of both the boys is understandably extremely happy about the way his sons have repaid his faith and admittedly cannot control his emotions when speaking about the duo. “Whenever I speak about Hardik and Krunal, I cannot control my tears and that they have done so well is God’s gift. Our intentions of letting them play cricket from a very young age was questioned and criticised by many relatives. But we were not willing to change our plans, and it is great to see what they have achieved now,” an emotional father told MI TV in an exclusive chat.

Nalini Pandya, the mother of the boys, added, “We were told that there was no point in chasing the cricket dream and that we should go back home.”

In the on-going season of the IPL, where the Mumbai Indians looked down and out at one point before their form took what is now considered a traditional U turn, Hardik has been the star with the ball as he is the second highest wicket-taker currently with 18 scalps in 12 games. Krunal, a left arm spinner, who in fact began the journey in the game earlier than his now more accomplished brother has 11 wickets to his name.

Both the Pandya brothers are integral to the plans of the captain Rohit Sharma. In recent years Hardik has become one of the mainstays of the Indian team as well, while Krunal has been handed his first chance to turn out for the India A team on their tour of England.
