Sunrisers Hyderabad will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore on Thursday and the two teams will have totally different motivations when they take the field.
Royal Challengers Bangalore haven’t had the best of seasons in the IPL, winning just 5 matches. But they are still hanging by the thread and require wins in both their last 2 games depending on other results.
For SRH, it is their chance to match the record for the most number of wins in the league stages of an 8 team IPL season – Rajasthan Royals (11) – 2008, KXIP (11) – 2014. This after they had confirmed their place in the Top 2 for the 1st time in IPL history this season.
They will be confident of putting on a great display, given by the fact that they have lost to SRH just once at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in the league stages of IPL.
However, SRH bowlers have been incredibly consistent across all phases of the 20 overs but have bagged most of their wickets (34 out of 75) in the period between the seventh and the 15th over. RCB got first-hand experience of that when they went from 55 for 1 in 6 overs to 85 for 5 in 12 in Hyderabad few days ago.
SRH depend quite a lot on opener Shikhar Dhawan (369 runs) and skipper Kane Williamson (544 runs) for inspiration.
Williamson has been a top leader since David Warner was ruled out of the IPL due to his role in the ball tampering incident.
The New Zealand captain would look to consolidate the team’s top spot and ensure a top-two finish at the end of the league stage.
